With more than six decades of experience in football as a player and coach, Ken brings an extraordinary depth of knowledge to the development of young players in Tasmania. Ken’s football journey began in a small village in the northeast of England. He played for Bishop Auckland and County Durham before representing England Schoolboys at St James’ Park, Newcastle, where he scored in a 4-0 victory over Wales. At just 15 years of age, Ken signed for Manchester United, fulfilling a childhood dream and beginning a lifelong association with the club. His playing career also included time at Blackpool, York City and Darlington before he moved into coaching. Ken’s coaching career has taken him around the world, including appointments in Malaysia, the Maldives, Vietnam, New Zealand and Ethiopia. He gained his AFC A Licence while working in Malaysia and developed a wealth of experience across different football cultures and environments. In Australia, Ken has coached at the highest levels of the domestic game, including Wollongong and Heidelberg in the former National Soccer League, as well as leading clubs in Tasmania. His achievements at South Hobart Football Club are particularly significant. Under his leadership, the senior men’s team enjoyed an extraordinary 63-match undefeated run in the National Premier League, winning multiple league championships, cups and a historic treble. His contribution to the club extended well beyond senior football, helping establish a strong culture of player development and success. Throughout his career, Ken has maintained a commitment to developing young footballers. His coaching philosophy places equal importance on technical ability, discipline, teamwork and character, recognising that football has an important role to play in the personal development of young people. Since establishing Morton’s Soccer School in 2007, Ken has helped develop thousands of junior and youth players across southern Tasmania. Many have progressed to senior football, National Premier League clubs and opportunities beyond Tasmania. Ken remains actively involved in coaching at Morton’s Soccer School, sharing his experience and passion for the game with the next generation of players and coaches. Over the past 17 years, MSS has grown into one of Tasmania’s leading football development programs, providing opportunities for thousands of young players to develop their skills, confidence and love of the game. Victoria has been actively involved in Tasmanian football for more than two decades, including 16 years as President of South Hobart Football Club. During her tenure, she played a significant role in the club’s development, securing more than $2.25 million in facility funding, strengthening junior and youth pathways and increasing female participation. Her contribution was recognised with Life Membership of the club. Her involvement in football extends well beyond South Hobart. Victoria is President of the Central Region Junior Football Association (CRJFA), which oversees competitions involving approximately 4,000 junior and youth players across southern Tasmania. She is also a driving force behind the Hobart Cup, Tasmania’s largest junior and youth football tournament. In 2026, the tournament attracted 324 teams and approximately 4,000 players, with 742 matches played across three days. Nationally, Victoria has been a strong advocate for community football and National Premier League clubs. She previously served as Vice Chair of the Australian Association of Football Clubs (AAFC), advocating for stronger national competition structures and improved opportunities for clubs and players. In 2026, she was elected to the Football Supporters Association Australia (FSAA), continuing her involvement in football advocacy at a national level. Victoria has consistently championed Tasmania’s place in Australian football, including the establishment of a Tasmanian A-League team, greater opportunities for talented young players and a stronger, more sustainable football structure across the state. An active football writer and advocate, Victoria writes extensively about Tasmanian and Australian football. Her articles explore the history of the game, football governance, community clubs, player development and the challenges facing football at both state and national levels. Through her writing, she aims to encourage informed discussion, challenge decisions where necessary and advocate for the long-term interests of the game. Through Morton’s Soccer School, Victoria remains committed to providing an environment where young players of all abilities can develop, supported by quality coaching, positive experiences and a genuine sense of belonging. Coming through the club’s youth system, he was fortunate to learn under Ken Morton, who played a key role in shaping his development as both a player and a coach. While he loved playing, he found his true passion in coaching. Ned gained his FFA Senior C Licence in 2011, followed by his FFA Youth C Licence in 2014. At 19, he made the decision to step away from playing to focus entirely on coaching, going on to complete his FFA/AFC B Licence in 2015. In addition to his coaching qualifications, Ned completed a Bachelor of Business at the University of Tasmania in 2016, his AFC ‘A’ Licence in 2018, and a Master of Leadership at Deakin University in 2020. He later pursued further studies in education, completing a Master of Teaching from the University of Tasmania in 2021. As Academy Director, Ned is responsible for designing and delivering a development program aimed at preparing the next generation of footballers at South Hobart FC. He works closely with the academy’s leadership and coaches to guide player development, support coaching standards and strengthen pathways into senior and professional football. Max moved to Melbourne at 19 to study and pursue further coaching opportunities. He spent six years coaching within the academies of Melbourne City FC and Western United FC, including roles as U21 and U23 Head Coach respectively. Max went on to lead South Hobart FC to three trophies in 2025 before guiding Northcote City FC to promotion to NPL Victoria in 2026.
